OBITUARY

 ASHWELL: Mary Josephine

Mary Josephine Ashwell departed this life on August 4, 2023 aged 75. She was in the care of St. John of God Hospital in Western Australia after a period of declining health. Mary was a strong woman with an even stronger will to live. She fought until her last breath.  Mary Jo was born on June 24, 1948 in our Nation's capitol Washington DC. She was the Daughter of the late Harold W. Dugan Sr. and Mary Irene Howell Dugan.

She attended schools in Virginia. Later she held several positions at the US Patent and Trademark Office in Crystal City until she retired in 2003.  She later met her Husband the late David Ashwell. They moved to New Zealand then to Australia where they had several small successful businesses. They loved to travel together.

Mary Jo was an excellent dancer in her youth. She loved to watch her westerns (her cowboys as she called them). She also loved caring for her dear Cat, Whiskers. She was Catholic by faith and enjoyed spending time with the Nuns. 

She is survived by her Children Wendy Byrd of Philippi West Va,  Mark Green (Bridget) of Rolfe Iowa, and Darrell Green (Tammy) of Washington DC. Her Grandchildren Ashley Byrd, Scott Ison (Melaura), Joshua Green, Thomas Green (Cassandra), Matthew Green, Michael Green, Dylan Green and Sarah Green. She had 5 great Grandchildren, Felix Green, Iris Ison, Wyatt Ison, Gannon Green and Gage Green.

She is preceded in death by her Brother Harold W. Dugan Jr., her Sister Deborah June Dugan and her Grandson Donovan Green.  She will be missed by all who know and love her. Her request to be cremated was honored.
